280SL Pagoda, sympathetically improved by SLSHOP for its current owner. This vehicle has been part of our international family of Pagodas for many years and is now available for acquisition.
Between 2001 and 2010 this 280SL lived in the dry climate of Australia, with receipts on file showing general maintenance spend in line with a car that was regularly exercised.
In 2011 the car was subject to a £15, 000 overhaul with a London based classic car restorer, including treatment of the shell and a complete repaint in Signal Red.
Further significant works took place in 2015. Almost £4, 000 was spent preparing the car for a continental road trip, which included rebuilding the speedo & tachometer, refitting the roof, refitting window mechanisms and repairing operation, repairs to the wiring and replacement of all key fluids.
DVLA records to date show 5 former keepers, with the car changing hands in 1985, 1992 and twice in 2006. The car is now offered for sale on behalf of Mr W, who has enjoyed this car since 2006.
Mr W has cherished this car whilst always keeping it in fine mechanical fettle - this 280SL is no stranger to the roads between London and Le Mans, having made the trip almost every year since the car has been in his care.
Now, having been repainted in Anthracite Metallic (172), this mechanically robust and ready to be used Pagoda could be yours.
The mileage indicated reflects the miles travelled since the engine was completely reconstructed.
HISTORY OF IMPROVEMENTS:
Steering box refurbishment: The box was removed, assessed and refurbished before being refitted to the vehicle and wheel alignment carried out.
Engine rebuild: This work involved the removal and strip of the engine with six new pistons, shell bearings, head gasket set, front and rear crank seals, oil and filters and water pump amongst other consumables and components. This included the refinement of the newly refurbished injection pump, which is an extremely intricate process. Fuel injection pumps are no longer available and can only be replaced with a refurbished alternative. The engine rebuild was itself carried out a cost of in excess of £10, 000. 00
Inside: The the dash topper has been re-trimmed in period correct leather; with all chrome restored to original standards for a hi-gloss sixties finish. The original dials have also been refurbished to ensure correct operation.
Outside: Following a repaint in Anthracite Metallic (172) at the current owner's request, all bumpers, chrome mouldings, mirrors, grilles and front and rear lights have been refitted with new replacements or refurbished originals. In addition, all seals have been replaced to ensure complete water tightness, protecting the pristine interior. The reassembling of the vehicle and fitment of all these new or refurbished parts took a considerable amount of time; with parts bills totalling over £12, 000.
This is just a snapshot of the works carried out in the last 18 months. The total spent exceeds £60, 000.
