I JUST love this car. All right, so I have always been a big Rootes Group fan for as long as I can remember - and so that takes me back into the 1950s! But this 1966 Singer Vogue Mark IV - the last one of the marque with Rootes' wonderful 1725cc engine fitted - is a pure delight. A family size luxury motor from the 60s, this is a voluptuous Vogue. A lady driver purchased her at new and kept her for 48 years until 2014. Really quite amazing. Even today, the V5 states just 3 previous owners!
This is a superb car, make no mistake. Superb body panels and original paintwork. Yes, that's right. And these old girls can only be original once. The deep lustre of the dark green paintwork has to be seen. Personally, I don't think my photographs taken today do it justice. Please come and see for yourself as you will fall in love with her. And what an interior. That gorgeous, typically Rootes Group wooden dash looks as good as it would have done when the car left the factory. The seats are perfect and even the original fitted carpets, though faded, are perfectly serviceable. Some small areas of the external paint, basically some sharp edges, have been lovingly polished through to factory primer, exposing the reddish tinge underneath. This however is slight and, in my view, only adds to the originality and patina of this stunning Singer. She has a current MoT until October with no advisories and drives superbly with excellent oil pressure.
The engine was totally rebuilt recently and I can itemise all the work done if anyone wants the intricate detailed account. That is doubtless why she drives so well. There's not a great deal more I can say really. Except to mention once again that, if this style of classic floats your boat, then you will buy her. My classic cars are motoring antiques. This car, for example, is 57-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply.
