Description
Do you know the Singer brand (pronounced Saintgère)? Sewing machines, but more than that! It is a post-war family saloon; a well-finished model and technologically advanced for its era.
Our example is the sole survivor of the 5 previously imported into France by Jacques Savoye.
This Singer SM1500 presents itself in a fine state of preservation. Very rounded shapes; a brown faux-leather interior giving it a harmonious colour harmony with its British Racing Green coachwork; a painted faux-wood dashboard, sober, equipped with a complete and functional set of instruments; a pretty vertical chrome grille (eight slats) and its left-hand drive steering wheel (rare for a British car!).
Four-cylinder engine, 1497cc, 48bhp, smooth and enduring.
inverted single carburettor
four-speed manual gearbox – partial synchronization
cut-out switch
front and rear drum brakes
vertical chrome grille, typical of the era
spacious and comfortable cabin – central armrests front and rear
doors opening oppositely - small step to climb in and a central pillar
indicators
heating and reversing light
A singular story linked to the British crown that would make it legendary
It is 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation; a small issue with the crown sees the British jewelers call on M. LIPECK, a renowned French jeweller, to fix the problem; the jewel is returned in time for the coronation of the future queen and, to thank M. LIPECK, this Singer SM1500 imported by Jacques Savoye is presented to him.
A restoration was carried out a few years ago. Always well maintained by its former owners, a file of invoices attests to this; this Singer is accompanied by period documentation, an owner's manual and a workshop manual.
