Jaguar Mk2 (240) Auto – Original/ Lovely Driving Car

The lineage of the Mk. II can be traced back to its predecessor, the 2. 4 saloon from 1957, the first monocoque Jaguar from the Sir William Lyons Design Team. Power came from the legendary XK straight six, twin cam engine in 2483cc form and this classic sports saloon won races and support from press & public alike.

In 1967 the cars were rebadged as the 240 & 340 in a short production run prior to launch of the XJ6 in 1968. The new 240 model benefited from an increase in engine power delivering +100mph performance for the first time and continued in production up to 1969 drawing heavily on the remaining Mk 2 parts bins. The price of the 240 was also decreased to compete with the Rover 2000 TC - a tricky choice for any would be purchaser – for me it would just have to be the Jaguar.

The Mk2 is an iconic car but at Milestones we have always struggled to find an example that meets our standards at a realistic price.

This lovely car has had just six keepers from new and three since 1987. The last owner bought the car privately around two years ago after a long search – he had one as a 21st birthday present! The car has performed faultlessly during his ownership and is only being sold because he has now located the actual car he received as the present from his parents 50 years ago

The previous custodian owned the 240 for over thirty years and during this period she was maintained fastidiously by an ex-Jaguar apprentice/ engineer. The car was used regularly on local runs and was only sold when he gave up driving.

The body has never required restoration, received paint in the original colour (Jaguar Powder Blue) around 20 years ago and presents very well with just the odd light blemish commensurate with light use and love.

Mechanically the Mk2 starts on the button/ drives very well – as you would expect from a Milestones car that has been cosseted for the last 30 years – and the straight six soundtrack is utterly addictive. The car comes with a complete kit (stub axles, half shafts, wheels, spinners) to convert to wire wheels (cost £2, 000)

The interior oozes 1960’s charm. The roof lining, seats, wood dash/ doors etc all have a lovely feel/ smell that takes you back to 1968. It is the perfect environment for any classic enthusiast.

Offered at a very sensible price in the best colour with strong mechanicals and lovely interior. Slipping behind the steering wheel is like travelling back in time.

This car needs to be viewed & driven to be fully appreciated…
