EXTERIOR
Distinguished in its classic combination of Azurite Blue Metallic and Mushroom Beige Leather, it’s easy to see why the sweeping form of the R129 SL is fast becoming a modern classic. Solid squared headlights punctate the period styling of the front end, whilst the modestly sized 16? 8 hole alloys offset the blue finish to create a pure and simple aesthetic.
Benefitting from a colour coded hard top and tonal dark blue soft top, which sits free from any rips or tears, this SL can comfortably be considered for use all year round.
INTERIOR
High quality craftsmanship was synonymous with Mercedes throughout the 80s/ 90s, and this SL 500 is no exception. Mushroom leather upholstery and glossy walnut trim create a plush finish that offsets the deep blue exterior, lifting the whole look of the SL to create a perfect summer sports car.
Deeply contoured front seats are equipped with electric memory adjustment and heating for maximum comfort, matched perfectly by the smooth automatic gearbox to create a refined, capable cruising environment. Further luxuries come in the form of a premium Blaupunkt FM radio and CD changer, electric climate control and an optional wind deflector which keeps cabin noise to a minimum once the automatic soft-top is down.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Mercedes M119 5L V8 the SL 500 is certainly a capable long distance tourer, using its low down torque and 5-speed automatic gearbox for an effortlessly smooth drive. Top speed is limited to 155mph whilst 0-60mph takes just 6. 3 seconds thanks to the V8’s 322bhp output.
Mechanically this example presents in good order, with regular servicing shown by the stamped service book and a file of invoices outlining significant expenditure from the current owner to ensuring the car was maintained to a high standard.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Contrasting the dark exterior, the silver finish 8-Hole 16” Alloys complete the classic style of the SL and show in good order all around, free from any signs of curbing. Matching Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres sit at each corner and have excellent depth all around.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Mercedes Bromley on 10/ 02/ 98 this R129 Mercedes SL 500 has been thoroughly enjoyed by its previous owners including being in family possession for more than 10 years.
Servicing has been carried out regularly throughout the cars life, with 14 stamps in the original service book as well as a comprehensive file of invoices totalling almost £15k. Most recently the car received an A service on 28/ 2/ 2023 at 89, 464 miles where all electrical equipment was checked and are operating accordingly, door locks, hinges, barrels and catches were also all cleaned and lubricated.
A log of MOTs is also present with the car from 2010, with the most recent MOT free from advisories.
Present with the car is the complete original book pack, stamped service book and invoices, Certificate of Conformity, V5 and 2 keys.
