1976 W116 Mercedes 450SEL Auto

Our Mercedes 450SEL was registered on 5th November 1976, so is MOT and Tax exempt
It presents well in Thistle Green with stunning original tan leather trim and matching carpets and being the SEL the rear legroom is generous.
The first owner ( had a personal registration JRF59 added ), they kept the car until 1987 retaining their number plate, the second owner kept the car until 2018, with the age related registration SPL499R
It appears the car was dry stored in 1994, which explains its fine condition today and was part of a deceased estate in 2018, and was recommissioned in 2019/ 20
We bought her in July 2021 with a mileage or 115, 855
It has electric windows all round and the electric sunroof works well
The stonking tan leather interior is very nice and original, and has the iconic 4 headrests, although there is a repair to the rear seat
We have upgraded the speakers and the stereo system is Bluetooth enabled, so you can do calls or stream music from the car
There is plenty of power, the 450SEL is powered by a 4. 5-litre M116 V8 offering 221bhp/ 271ft. lb and capable of 0-60 in 8. 5 seconds and makes a lovely burble

The mileage is currently 120, 199 ( rising slightly as still in use ) and the car is MOT’d till 22 June 2024, although it is MOT and Tax Exempt

Since purchasing in August 2021, we have performed the following
• Full service inc fuel filters
• New Alternator And belts
• New shock absorbers all round
• New exhaust hangers to existing stainless steel exhaust
• New fuel pump and accumulator, fuel hoses and related pipework
• New EBC Greenstuff brake pads all round
• New rear discs and braided brake hoses all round
• Stereo and speaker upgrade inc Bluetooth / hands free
• Changed the number plated to raised letter plates as per the period.

In 2019 recommissioning included some hoses, a full service including, rotor arm, distributor cap, thermostat, water pump, and new fuel injectors
During recommissioning, the car had had new sills and 3 new wheel arches fitted, the body is very good for one of these, but it will need another wheel arch which is bubbling under the surface ( passenger side rear ) at some point, this will be included with the sale.
There are a few bits on the body, that if the car is kept garaged and used in the dry, are not likely to get much worse, or you could attend to them at some point that I touched in when we got the car
The engine bay presents well, although some detailing and touching up would improve it further.
The chrome work, grille and window surrounds could do with polishing, and the rear bumper could do with a rechrome, although replacements are quite cheap for these.

Mint cars are going for 25-28k so the asking price gives room to improve the condition should the next owner wish

We have done around 5, 000 miles in our ownership, so this is a very reliable car that gets a lot of attention, and being the economical 4. 5 litre ( as opposed to 6. 9 ) is more usable, and the coil sprung suspension much simpler to maintain.

We are only selling her, as she isn’t being used as much as she should, which seems a shame
