1934 Lanchester 10 Mulliner Coupe - over £27, 000 spent on her restoration
The Lanchester Ten made its first appearance in September 1932. As with Daimler vehicles, a preselector gearbox with fluid flywheel was used, thus simplifying gear changing which, along with its impressive specification for a car in this horsepower range, made the new model very attractive.
Available as a saloon, Drophead Coupe, sports saloon or Fixed head Coupe, there was a model to appeal to a wide variety of motorists.
The motor car we offer here is a rare find today, being a Fixed Head Coupe with sunshine roof built by Mulliners of Birmingham. Between 2019 and 2021, substantial restoration and refurbishment was undertaken, with bills totalling over £27, 000. All the bills and details are itemised in the extensive folder supplied with the car. An award was gained for this work by the Lanchester Trust - a plaque being affixed in the interior.
The exclusive nature of this model came at a large price - £325 being a a substantial figure for a 10 hp motor car in 1934.
The recorded mileage, which stands at just over 69, 000 miles, is understood to be correct and much care has been taken to keep to the original specification during the restoration.
This car was the subject of a feature in ‘The Automobile’ November 2021 issue, which shows in detail the work undertaken to return this charming Lanchester to the road.
Retaining the original West Sussex registration number, this very rare motor car attracts much interest and is possessed of considerable character.
