From the German “Renn Sport”, literally meaning “racing sport”, the RS was and still is Audi`s highest trim level and has been available across the range since 1994. The RS4 badge was first introduced on the Avant variant of the B5 platform in late 1999 but saw a significant upgrade with the launch of the B7 model (no RS4 was built on the intervening B6) in mid-2006. Immediately available in 3 distinct body styles - saloon, estate and convertible - this entirely new model featured a fully galvanised body with aluminium front wings and bonnet and a 4163cc V8 engine developing 414BHP as seen on the R8 supercar. Available only with Getrag 6-speed manual transmission, the car came with Audi`s very latest Quattro four-wheel drive system featuring a default 40:60 front to rear torque split under normal driving conditions providing a more dynamic driving experience. Standard specification was high and included acoustic front and rear parking systems, carbon-fibre interior trims, BOSE 10-speaker sound system with optional Symphony II upgrade and 19” alloys wheels. Around 10, 000 RS4 variants were built on the B7 platform (2006-2008) with approximately 2000 examples going to the US where today they are highly sought-after by collectors. A similar trend is now being mirrored in the UK and Europe with prices slowly on the rise.
Our car was registered in April 2006 making it a very early B7 car and was supplied new through Smith Knight Fay of Bolton to a gentleman in Fulwood, Preston. He retained the car for 3 years covering around 13, 000 miles before selling to a television executive in Devon who himself retained the car until 2014. In July of that year, the Audi, now with just over 68, 000 miles, was sold through a specialist performance car dealership in Lechlade to a gentleman in Bournemouth. He enjoyed for over 2 years covering a further 17, 000 miles before selling in November 2016 to a gentleman in Clevedon. The car remained on the Somerset coast just 9 months before moving south to Weymouth in July 2017. Since acquisition, the Audi has been permanently garaged and used sparingly, recording fewer than 8000 miles in 6 years. Current mileage is 94, 175.

The fully stamped up Service Schedule is supported by a lever-arch file of receipts documenting the work undertaken at each service as well as additional maintenance work over the entire period. This includes everything from tyres and brakes to a new radiator (2010), new headlamp control unit (2011), fitting of Milltek exhaust (2015), fitting of adjustable coil-over suspension with DRC shock-absorbers and flexi hoses (2016), full gearbox and rear differential oil change (2016) and replacement O2 sensor (2018).
The Audi today presents as seen in the photographs. Bodywork and paintwork are exceptional and virtually blemish-free whilst newly refurbished 19” alloys are superb other than a light scuff to both nearside rims. Front and rear bumpers are stone-chip free and door blades perfect. The interior tells a similar story with just light wear apparent to the drivers` seat. Both passenger seat and rear seat are practically wear-free with no scuffs or snags to the black leather. Turn the key and on pushing the START button, the V8 fires immediately into life sounding purposeful and “on song”. The Milltek system produces a glorious low rumble on tickover and benefitting from the optional resonance delete, allows the car to be driven discretely if required. On the road, the car is sublime with effortless performance and impressive road manners. I have just taken it for an extended road test around Weymouth and out towards Bridport on the Abbotsbury coast road. What a drive. The acceleration is astonishing and the soundtrack infectious - the fact that there is a BOSE system in the car becomes somewhat irrelevant. This engine was designed to redline at 8, 000RPM. Quite unbelievable.
The Audi comes with a full Dealer Pack including stamped-up Service Schedule, Owner`s Manual, Navigation System Instructions, Navigation Discs, full lever-arch file of bills and receipts, lots of old MoT Certificates, a current MoT to September 2024 with no Advisory Notes and 2 sets of keys.
