OM648 Diesel 3. 2 litre engine with turbo & intercooler. In-line (straight) 6 cylinder.

'Avantgarde' spec with genuine AMG factory fitted styling package (known as Option 772 featuring E55 front splitter, side skirts and rear bumper). Thanks to the factory AMG styling and wheels it is often mistaken for an E55. The only difference being the two concealed exhaust pipes behind the rear bumper whereas the E55 AMG of course has four exposed tailpipes.

It is difficult to recognise it as a diesel thanks to the smooth in-line 6 cylinder engine. Before and since the recent gearbox service there has been no issue with the car going through the gears.

Local sensible driving returns 30-35mpg however the car comes into its own on open stretches of road. On motorway trips (where it has mainly been used since purchase) the car has achieved 50mpg which is remarkable for a car of this age and size - whilst still offering 500Nm of torque from low revs. To put that into context the same shape ‘E55’ had a 5. 4 Supercharged V8 that offered 700Nm, and the face-lifted 6. 2 V8 ‘E63’ had 630Nm of torque but at much higher revs.

The upholstery is quite hard wearing without any imperfections or bolster wear. As a recent owner of W124 E-Class, this car has some similarities with the quality of hard-wearing upholstery. Granted the switchgear does not have the same feel which is to be expected. The footwell mats are all original black Mercedes with chrome badges.

Only selling as my long distance work trips are significantly reducing, so switching to petrol.

Delivered: 2005-03-11. Year of modification: 2004/ 2 (code 055).

This car’s datacard confirms it is an '805' code revision from the 2nd quarter of 2004 (pre-facelift). This means the car is galvanised from factory, and was a return to form for the E-Class after the build quality issues of the W210. The '805' code revision also addressed electrical issues of the initial W211 production cars.

Up until Sept 2023 the car lived in London so it is cosmetically and structurally very good, without rust. The car had been owned since new by two members of the same family (also Mercedes enthusiasts). The excellent condition and brilliant engine do not give away the car’s age.

Recent work carried out by previous owner (before Aug 2023) was:
- Fitment of new Continental rear tyres.
- Gear selector module changed (matching interior trim and with push-button on lever).
- Replacement of water pump.
- Discs and pads.
- Main battery.
- Ball joints.
- Valeo wipers.

Work carried out in my short ownership is listed as follows.

Sept 2023: The 18" Single-piece alloys (replicas of AMG split wheels) were removed and checked. Only one of them required its flat spot to be corrected using a ECOMAX wheel straightener due to minimal buckling. Wheel also rebalanced. Receipt available from work carried out by Walsall Wood Tyre & Service. The car has always had staggered fitment with bigger tyres at rear. Currently Falken 225/ 40/ R18 on front and Continental 265/ 45/ R18 on rear.

Sept 2023: Track rod replaced & tracking. Removal of a low quality aftermarket tint that had been fitted by the previous owner.

Oct 2023: Welding of exhaust bracket, new parking sensor in rear bumper, alignment of rear bumper, new poly V-belt. All carried out by WDM Cars (reputable Mercedes specialist). Receipt available.

Oct 2023: Gearbox service carried out including filter change, with new Mercedes gearbox sump gasket and Mercedes gearbox mount. Receipt/ invoice from Neil Smith Transmissions (Cannock) available.

Oct 2023: Oil service, coolant flush, replacement of genuine Behr oil cooler & oil cooler gasket (both supplied by Mercedes Tamworth alongside genuine Mercedes engine oil). Coolant flush. New air filter (Mann) and fuel filter (Hengst) from GSF. Stamped in vehicle history booklet.

Oct 2023: Professional wash & detail including interior clean, including removal of oxidation on headlamps. Receipt available.

Dec 2023: Replace N/ S/ F wheel hub (Geniune Mercedes item). Receipt available.

Jan 2024: Replace N/ S/ F lower & upper ball joint & front lower arm. Receipt available.

Mar 2024: M. O. T & Fit replacement genuine Mercedes engine mounts. Receipt available.

April 2024: Replace O/ S/ F lower arm & upper arm ball joint. Adjust O/ S/ F wheel bearing which were advisories on latest M. O. T. Receipt available.

Near complete service history (stamped) and receipts available for all parts purchased.

Mileage mid-April 2024 is 105K which may increase weekly. It has averaged approx. 5, 500 miles per year, and with continued maintenance the engine should have no problem achieving another 100k miles.
