1979 VW Devon Moonraker double top. 2 litre RHD. Unrestored vehicle with virtually all of its original features. 4 Former keepers. Purchased by myself from a trader in 2015.
The camper is in remarkably good condition for its 40+ years and has been garaged all of its life with me. I purchased it with 88k original miles on its original engine and have the paperwork to support the mileage.
There a few small rust spots around the bodywork that have been there all the time I have owned it and personally do not concern me or affect the use or enjoyment of the vehicle. See photos. The underside of the vehicle has in its past had anti corrosion treatment which has kept the underside in good order with no signs of any work that has to be done.
Whilst I have had the camper I have done quite a few things to enhance it but I still have original parts that will be supplied if required.
Here's a list of the work undertaken whilst I've had the camper.
Interior -
Replaced the interior roof carpet lining/
Replaced drivers and passenger seat internal padding/
Had new seat cushions made. (I have all the originals which are in reasonable condition if you want the original look)/
240V hookup and leisure battery charger/
Installed EMPI Trigger Gear Shift. (have original)/
Buddy seat frames powder coated cream/
Replaced interior lights with LED strip lights (have originals).
Exterior -
Replaced all dampers/
Replacement chrome wing mirrors (have originals)/
Steel wheels powder coated cream/
Baby Moon Hubcaps (have the original VW ones).
Engine Bay -
Replaced exhaust/
Replaced mechanical fuel pump with Electric pump/
Converted to electronic ignition. (have original points)/
Twin Solex Carbs replaced by Single Webber Carb/
EMPI Rocker Covers/
Breather kit fitted/
In 2020 The engine was pulled to replace rocker cover gasket and and all other seals replaced. Took the chance to clean the engine parts - tin work and clean up the engine bay/
Replaced heat exchangers.
Original Fixtures and Fittings -
All of the cabinets, seats, bed, floor carpet and the funky 70's Lino under the carpet/
Original Sink, Hob and Grill work perfectly. There is an original water tank fitted under the vehicle and electric pump and filter have been added by previous owner/
The fridge is the original and works fine from Camping gas or 12V whilst driving/
I have all the original seat cushions/
The paint colour is the original colour but I can see that previous owners have attempted to touch up with spray cans over the years. I have tried to polish it up and make the best of it without going for a full respray. It's not perfect by any means but good for its age/

If you are after an original Devon Moonraker double top 2 litre RHD with many original features still in place then there are not too many out there this is really good example. Before buying her we hired a 1. 6 version and loved the layout but wanted more power. The extra power of the 2 litre engine over the 1. 6 makes for more comfortable motoring. We've had many happy camping trips over the 8 years of ownership but not as many as we'd like recently due to our family circumstance changing. We are not using the van and a motorcycling habit is calling for some more garage space so it's time to sell if the right buyer is out there.
