The "Roadster" version (code TR4 or TR5) is undoubtedly the most exclusive factory bodywork to be fitted on the Peugeot 301, of which the CR version was only produced between August 1933 and August 1934.
A copy of the original delivery slip for this example states that it left the factory on 19th March 1934 and was invoiced 2 days later to Mrs Mareuse, a famous racing driver who raced twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a Bugatti 40, as well as the Monte Carlo 1933 and 1934 with a Peugeot 301. As a family friend of the current owners, it appears she quickly sold the roadster, since their grand-aunt, who had taken part in several ACFF rallies, entered the Royan concours of elegance at the wheel of the car presented in August 1935 and August 1936, registered in Seine in 1934. Several pictures bear witness to this period. Since then, the car has remained in the family with a new registration in Paris in 1955.
It returned to the family property during the 1970s, then restarted in the mid-1980s and continued to circulate from time to time around the park, before joining the Delaunay Belleville in storage. It is with undisguised pleasure that we discovered this rarity in exceptional original condition, with its bodywork in 2 shades of red and its matching interior. This car is complete, healthy and deserves a mechanical restoration, which would then enable it to take the road again without the need of touching this patina that is impossible to reproduce, as it is most certainly the last existing roadster in such original condition.
