The last of the Big Six models and widely considered the finest achievement of the master, Sir F. H. Royce.
The chassis card accompanies the history file and shows this magnificent PII with coachwork by Hooper & Co Ltd to have been sold by Car Mart Ltd of Park Lane in October 1929, at a cost of £2, 586, to a Mrs E F Mayers of London. It was ordered in ‘Berger’s Mulberry’ over Black wings and valences colour scheme which has been retained today after a period of being all black prior to thorough recommissioning in the 1990’s.
A Mr James A Miller of Minesota is recorded as being the custodian of the motorcar during an overseas stint in the United States of America and prior to this, E. F. Edwards Ltd of Birmingham and Brig-General A. C. Critchley of London respectively. The car was imported back from the USA and sold to the most recent custodian where it has resided since March 1991 and thus has enjoyed a most recent stint of 23 years in the same ownership. This exquisite motorcar was supplied at this time by The Real Car Company and the bill of sale and supplementary correspondence about supplying a new exhaust and mascot accompanies the reassuring history file. Bodywork and paint was addressed at this time also.
Substantial engine work was carried out in 2005 with receipts from Ken Brittan for a new camshaft and followers, plus the predominate invoice from Ristes Motor Company; documenting a total block refurb and in addition supply of a replacement cylinder head - the latter item alone costing £8, 616. Naturally inlet and exhaust valves have also been replaced, along with guides for both (supplied by Coldwell Engineering). Prior to this, paperwork also shows a new clutch plate was fitted with accompanying new thrust bearing and other associated sundries.
The motorcar presents exceptionally well. Imposing and resplendent in retained complementary tones of mulberry on the lower portion, with gloss black occupying the upper surface of the vast bonnet, wings, lower roof and upper part of the doors, where a smart dual gold pinstripe segregates the shades. The black canvas roof is in exemplary condition too. The brightwork is remarkable also with the nickel plating of the Lucas P100 headlights matching the quality of the plating on other elements, such as the door handles and of course the formidable slatted radiator grille and The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. Inside the original black leather in the drivers compartment has been retained whilst the passengers that are separated by a sliding glass division are seated on re-trimmed red leather in original pleat (not buttoned) design, as optioned in period. Two fold-out occasion seats, as optioned from the factory, are also present and correct. Throughout, the ebony veneer is spectacular and there is an overall aura of delectable patina.

The car starts, drives and stops extremely well. In all regards it is a fantastic example.

Priced extremely realistically for today’s market, any viewing and inspection is welcomed at Leavenhalls Classic and Prestige in Shropshire.
