This immaculate Suffolk SS100 is presented in the appealing combination of dark indigo blue bodywork with contrasting burgundy red painted 18” wire wheels and an interior trimmed with burgundy red leather upholstery, Wilton carpet and a period four spoke “Moto-Lita” steering wheel. This car was hand-built by Suffolk Sportscars and delivered to the current owner in May 2014. It has covered approximately 2, 200 miles since being built and has been garaged from new, never driven in the wet and regularly serviced and MOT tested (most recently in October 2023), despite its low annual milage and historic status.

This car is a beautiful and authentically detailed replica of an iconic 1930’s British sports car, originally designed by William Lyons (the founder of Jaguar), and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sports cars ever made. “SS is the name of a new car that is going to thrill the hearts of the motoring public and trade alike….” wrote Autocar in 1931. The SS100 gained its name (and fame) from its ability to achieve the magic 100mph figure - truly spectacular in its day – and a re-bodied Pycroft SS100 went on to win the first post-war non-championship Formula One face held at Goodwood in 1948!

Due to its rarity and value, the SS100 has been an object of desire for more than eighty years and has inspired many imitations. However, few (if any) are as aesthetically accurate and as well finished as the cars built by Roger Williams of Suffolk Sportscars, using bespoke manufactured components such as the solid brass chromed radiator surround, alloy louvered bonnet and folding windscreen – all detailed to match the 1930’s originals.

This car has a Jaguar XK 4. 2 litre straight six engine fitted with twin SU HS8 carbs and a four-speed XK manual gearbox with overdrive, all donated from a Jaguar XJ6 first registered on 20 February 1970. As part of the original build, Suffolk Sportscars rebuilt the engine ancillaries (included starter motor, alternator, distributor, and water pump) and fitted a twin pipe stainless steel exhaust system, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, electronic ignition, coil spring suspension, electric cooling fan and inertia-reel seat belts - to give the perfect combination of performance, reliability and comfort.

This car comes with period Blockley 550-18 tyres, a classic 3 letter 3 number private plate, a zipped dark blue tonneau (matching the body colour) and folding mohair hood, side screens and weather gear (stored in the lockable area behind the seats), folding windscreen and two racing aero screens, the famous Lucas “Flamethrower” central headlamp, heater, tool kit, and a rear chrome luggage rack - complete with an original 1930’s suitcase – all of which will be included in the sale. The car is accompanied with a history folder containing the original Suffolk Sportscars owner’s handbook and the original PDI checklist, a full collection of service invoices, the V5C and a “Classic Additions” dark blue fitted car cover.

It's perfect for a relaxed Sunday drive or for longer-distance touring, allowing you to enjoy the charm and excitement of 1930’s motoring, but with mechanical reliability and comfort. It’s fun to drive, with great performance and handling, and provides ample room for taller drivers (the current owner is over 6’1”). There is also plenty of room for luggage behind the seats or on the luggage rack.

Purchased as a weekend car to be enjoyed in retirement, this car has seen little use since it was first delivered (mainly due to the fact that the current owner never retired!) and it is now offered for sale in excellent condition to find a new owner who can use and enjoy it.
