Not only one of BMW’s most groundbreaking vehicles, but also a technological tour-de-force for the entire industry, the production-ready i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show following years of concept cars teasing its design. Designed as a flagship sports car to debut BMW’s i Brand, the i8 features carbon fiber construction and hybrid technology along with numerous comfort features to squarely place it against the Porsche 911 Carrera. With a 1. 3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine coupled to an electric motor for a combined 357 bhp, the i8 was able to accelerate from a standstill to 62mph in just 4. 4 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. With butterfly doors, four seats, and the ability to be driven by electricity alone for up to 12 miles, the i8 offers a driving experience few others can match.
