Offered for sale due to emigration is a fine example of an early five-door Land Rover Discovery, first registered in 1992, powered by a 2. 5L 200Tdi diesel engine through a 5-speed manual gearbox with high and low range. The car is finished in Carrigada Green Metallic (as per the ID plate – this colour was later referred to by Land Rover as Ardennes Green), and being from the 1992 changeover year, features a beige cloth interior whilst retaining the earlier dash, including a variety of design elements borrowed from both the Rovers and Range Rovers of the day. An increasingly rare sight on the roads, the Discovery 1 is fast becoming the target not just of Land Rover and 4x4 enthusiasts, but of serious car collectors, with values increasing accordingly year on year.

This is a high-spec model and was fitted with air conditioning from the factory. The system uses R12 refrigerant, which was for some years difficult to get hold of. Accordingly, a previous owner has disabled the system by removing the drive belt from the compressor. R12 replacements are now available, as are modern R134a retrofits, should the new owner desire to restore the AC system to full operation. A diesel heater is also fitted to assist with cabin warming and cold starts, which this can be programmed from a control panel in the cabin to warm the car before driving on winter mornings, providing both an easy start and instant hot air in the cabin. The heater fan control appears to be intermittent, but this should be an easy fix for an enthusiast or Land Rover specialist.

The car features a period-correct light bar and roof rack, and a heavy-duty front bumper has been fitted, including an integrated winch, which is more than capable of pulling the full weight of the car. The winch is controlled using a handheld wired remote which is stored beneath the driver’s seat.

A split charge system with an auxiliary battery and controller is fitted, allowing accessories such as the winch to run independently of the main starting battery. Provision is also made to bridge both batteries, allowing the car to jump-start itself should the main battery become discharged.

Four Cooper Discoverer AT tyres are fitted, with a matching, unused spare in the boot, alongside a bottle jack and basic toolkit. The car rides on subtly raised suspension, allowing both better ground clearance when driving off-road and the fitment of larger tyres. Rock sliders, capable of bearing the full weight of the car, prevent any damage should the increased height not be quite enough, and provide a useful ‘side step’ for entering and exiting the car.

With a full years MOT, no advisories and a mileage of 155, 085, this vehicle is in reasonable condition for its age and ready for a new chapter.

The car is situated just outside Oxford – please get in touch to arrange a viewing.
