This three-owner example of the Vauxhall Astra GTE 16v has recently been removed from long term storage. Both the current and previous owners have kept the car largely in dry, covered storage which is shown it its condition and low miles. We understand the car was removed from road use sometime early 2015, and returned to the road briefly in 2019. It has then been off the road since, and still yet to pass 50, 000 miles.
Its most recent MOT test was mid-2019 which resulted in a clean first time pass and the car has been subject to no use since, however the current owner has carried out some basic maintenance to ensure the vehicle runs well. What is so inviting is its condition; since being removed from storage it has only had a basic wash - it is 'as was' from over a decade ago and would fit perfectly into a collection ready to appreciate further, or to return to the road with little fuss.
Of special note and unlike others that are available, this example has not been restored, and what we describe as a 'survivor car'.
We are able to provide the vehicle with 12 months MOT if the purchaser requires so.
The classic wedge shape looks fantastic, and inside the retro vibes continue, right down to the cassette slots in the centre consol. And of course, that dash. No Astra GTE is complete without the fabulous digital dashboard. This example also has the rev counter 'flick', as apposed to the solid curve rev counter.
While this example is not what could be described as concours, it is in exceptionally good condition for its age, and certainly could be made so with little work. The engine bay is clean, as is the spare wheel well. The rear arches - a notorious Mk2 Astra weak point - show little signs of wear, with only some slight paint deformation showing on the N/ S. It is also worth highlighting again that to our knowledge the car has never been restored, modified, and is absent of the large exhaust and cone filters once common modifications with these vehicles. Even the parcel shelf is free from speaker holes and the dash proudly wears its original tape player head unit. Please see the photo gallery.
Of special note is the engine - it is common for the 20XE 16v engines to 'tap' from cold, until the oil warms up, however this example shows no noise from hot or cold.
We have noted pricing for Astra GTE 16v's like this example have been consistently climbing, the median price having grown from circa £5, 000 in 2019, to just over £20, 000 today, and the line indicating a further climb. In fact, a red GTE 16V showing 43, 000 miles sold at auction for just under £30, 000 recently, and similar examples are not far behind.
