The Hindustan Ambassador is an Indian-made classic based on the Morris Oxford. This one was shipped to UK and registered in 1993 by Fullbore Motors. The specifications including brakes, seat belts, catalytic converter and electrics were all upgraded for the UK market and (then) EU vehicle safety laws.
Failed MOT in 2007, after full remedial works passed in 2008, Last MOT expired in 2009, car kept SORN since then.
Pros:
Unique vehicle in UK, very few imported, fewer currently on the road.
18. L Isuzu engine parts available. Spares also available online and via Morris Oxford club.
Great fun to drive, low mileage, built like a tank.
Cons:
Engine currently a non-starter and car will have to be transported by buyer.
Offside rear wheel won’t go round.
Some rust on bodywork and outside of sills.
Perfect restoration project!
In 1992 I was looking for a classic car and the Hindustan was a perfect match, having a classic Morris design but newly built, with a modern (for 1992) engine, safety features like seat belts and emissions controls. The Hindustan gave me many years of fun and reliable driving both in the UK and Europe, and turned heads wherever it went. Reluctantly selling because my mechanic is retiring and I don't have the facility to fix it up myself.
