Externally the car presents quite well but is not concours by any means . A front end respray was carried out in 2022 to sort out lacquer peel on the bonnet and front wings, replacement doors were fitted in 2020 as the originals were rusting along their bottom edge.
The car is currently on Uniroyal tyres all round.
Interior is generally quite good condition but does show its age in places faded graphics on switches etc. The dash is cracked which seems to affect almost all 944's that haven't been garaged all their lives. Internally the only thing that doesn't work is the drivers seat height adjustment. It is set on its lowest setting and thats how I like it so has never bothered me. The passenger electric window is slow but always works. The sunroof works well and can be removed and stored in the boot in its own bag ( the bags are quite rare now apparently). The rear luggage blind works well which is another notoriously difficult part to get hold of. The digital clock (including stopwatch) is in full working order.
THE STORY
I had wanted a 944 for years and this one came up and I went all the way to Edinburgh to pick it up. It has the 16 inch d90 wheels from the later S2 model. This opens up more options tyre wise as the original 15 inch wheels are quite difficult to get appropriate tyres for nowadays.
The rear shocks were tired so i upgraded the suspension to Bilstein B6 all round which is a great balance. Enhances the handling without affecting the ride too badly and retaining original spec springs and therefore ride height.
Its a far more practical car than it first appears and is really good for long journeys with the only down side been the lack of air con. I have fitted a JVC head unit with bluetooth connectivity and also replaced the front speakers.
The car always turns heads and gets attention everywhere it goes even amongst far more prestigious vehicles at local events with Porsche Club GB, other Porsche owners groups or Goodwood member events.
It is a good usable classic and a great runner. Priced accordingly for its condition and the recent works completed.
