Welcome to the sale of my 2002 Mercedes S-Class (W220) which is being listed as a PROJECT due to a recent MOT failure. It’s still a lovely car, but I have too many cars to sort out, so I’m offering it at a bargain price in the hope that an enthusiast will take it on and keep it running. It was a £50, 000 car back in 2002 (over £80k in today's money), so it's now being sold for less than 1% of its original value. Insane. Surely it must be worth £695 to someone. In parts, if nothing else.

Basically, to get it through an MOT it needs:

Some welding on the sill(s)
A slight fuel drip fixing (not sure where it's coming from).
The SRS airbag light sorting out.
A new gaiter on one of the steering tie rods.

The car has been very reliable on my 50-mile round-trip daily commute. Despite its higher mileage, the 3. 2 straight-six diesel engine runs beautifully, doesn’t overheat, and is surprisingly
economical. The air suspension works and will raise and lower the car. The central locking works as do the electric windows. The heater works and the aircon appears to kick-in okay. The bodywork is generally very presentable apart from some slight lifting of the lacquer in a couple of places, and some slight rust on a couple of the wheel arches. The offside bottom of front bumper has also been scraped/ chipped. The alloy wheels are very good, and the car still looks very impressive when it’s clean. The interior is very clean and is smoke and pet-free, and the leather is all good, except for one repaired tear in the passenger seat (my fault – Doh!).

The car has had the following new parts in my ownership:
4 new tyres (about 4000 miles ago)
New air suspension compressor.
New horns
Oil and air filter change.
New battery
New front offside air suspension strut (done just before I bought it).

The MOT history shows that the car has generally failed on very little during its history. It failed on a few things this time but, as I explained earlier, it's not a great deal. Maybe £400 to put it right? Less if you're handy.

The car does have a couple of other ‘niggles’, which I’ll be quite upfront about with anyone who's interested, but it is 22 years old after all. At the price I’m advertising it, it’s a lot better proposition than a lot of the projects for sale elsewhere. If it doesn't sell this this time then I'll fix it myself and keep it.

So there it is. If you’re interested then I’d strongly recommend that you come and see the car. Happy to answer any questions.

Thanks for looking,
Lee
