Having stunned the motoring world by bringing its 1989 Viper concept car into full production, Chrysler Corporation repeated the trick just a few years later, exhibiting the amazing Prowler 'hot-rod' at the 1993 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Of course, Chrysler's motivation went far beyond a nostalgic fondness for 1950s street rods, for despite its retro looks, one of the Prowler's raisons d'être was to act as a test-bed for the very latest in advanced constructional techniques and the use of aluminium in particular. Of the Prowler's all-up weight of 2, 780lbs, more than 900lbs was aluminium, this lightweight and corrosion resistant material being used for the chassis, various suspension components and body panels, including the bonnet and doors, while the brake discs were made from an aluminium composite material.
For the engine and drivetrain, the Prowler team raided the corporate parts bin, opting for the company's 3. 5-litre cast-iron V6 engine and four-speed automatic transmission. Production commenced early in 1997 and within little more than a year the cast-iron engine had gone, being replaced for the 1999 model year by, appropriately enough, an all-aluminium 3. 5-litre 24-valve V6 producing 253bhp, an increase of 39 horsepower over the old unit. Following the axing of the Plymouth brand, the Prowler gained Chrysler badging for 2001. 2002 would be the final year of production of this remarkable, and now highly collectible, modern classic.

We are advised that the last MoT expired in June 2022, the car was run very recently via a booster battery pack (the key-fob's battery is flat). There are no documents with this Lot but it is hoped that further information will be available at time of sale.
