A 'small' Lamborghini intended to compete with Ferrari's Dino 308 and Porsche's 911, the Urraco was announced in 1970, with deliveries commencing in 1972. The Miura's basic mechanical layout was adopted for the Urraco (the name means 'young bull') but in place of the former's transversely-mounted 4. 0-litre V12 there was a 2. 5-litre two-cam V8 producing 220bhp. Styled by Carrozzeria Bertone, the unitary-construction Urraco employed McPherson Strut suspension all round and, despite a wheelbase 9cm shorter than the Miura's, was roomy enough to accommodate a 2+2 cockpit. Brisk acceleration and a top speed of 230km/ h were complemented by leech-like roadholding and a comfortable ride.

In 1974 the P250 was superseded by the P300. The latter was powered by a 3. 0-litre V8, which now boasted twin overhead camshafts and produced 250bhp (265 horsepower from 1976), which was good enough for a top speed of around 260km/ h and 0-100km/ h in 5. 2 seconds. At the same time the transmission and suspension were improved and the dashboard layout revised. Despite its basic soundness, superior performance and numerous improvements, this latest Urraco still failed to sell in significant numbers and when production ceased in 1978 only 190 P300s had been made compared with 520 of the P250. Never the volume seller its maker hoped for, the Urraco is much rarer than either the contemporary Ferrari Dino or Porsche 911. One for the connoisseur.

Finished in black with beige/ brown leather interior, '20024' is one of 205 Urraco P300 models made between 1974 and 1979; it was completed on 28th October 1974 and delivered the following month finished in Pearl Grey Metallic with beige/ mustard leather trim. The accompanying cancelled Carte Grise records the date of first registration in Switzerland as 1st July 1976. Bought by the vendor in 2014 from Max Bobnar, the well-known Swiss Lamborghini dealer (MB Sport Cars SA), the car was repainted black in Germany in July 2015 and re-trimmed in October that year by a local specialist (invoices on file). The Urraco has just been serviced and has a fresh MFK (see Statarius Classic Cars' invoices dated 28th February and 1st April 2024 totalling CHF7, 087). The engine and the air conditioning have been fully checked also. One of the nicest Urracos we have seen, the car also comes with various service invoices and a report from marque historian, Olivier Nameche.
