SUMMARY
Originally supplied by John R Weir, Edinburgh, but sold a few moths later by Mercedes Bez of Epsom, Surrey this ML350CDI Grand Edition is among the very last of of this variant of the popular M-Class. These late models were vast improvement over the earlier models, with marked step up build quality and finish and all the teething problems of the earlier cars having been addressed. Also being a Grand Edition, it features a very high specification too, as Mercedes were effectively emptying the W164 parts bin at the end of the model's production life.
This car came to me via a friend, who I guided when he bought this car. He'd originally inquired about a similar car I had, but had already sold by the time he contacted me. Unfortunately, due to health problems which meant his licence was temporarily withdrawn, he was forced to sell it in March this year, which is when I bought this from him; I always said to him when he bought this car, I'd buy it when he wanted to sell. Since March, I've used this myself, and even now as I'm writing this I'm actually still quite reluctant to let it go as its one of the most comfortable cars I've had, and really does look the part. Its quick, economical and so, so nice to drive, and still looks like the £55K vehicle it once was.
Bodywork is superb and with the exception of a few minor stone chips, and a small, almost imperceptible mark on the tailgate, its pretty much pristine and more importantly all original. Unlike most it hasn't be used a van/ dog carrier/ workhorse, so interior is immaculate too, with everything working as it should. Incredibly, it's also never been used to tow either, which is virtually unheard of with these cars; they're rated to tow 3 tons, which is class leading and are extremely popular among caravaning community.
So, if you're in the market for one of these, you'll know there are some very questionable examples out there, being passed off for something they're not. This car is the polar opposite of those, and feels and looks much more expensive than it actually is. Its also been looked after properly and not been run on a shoestring.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have.
