Description

Without doubt, WUY 427 is an incredibly special motor car with an unbelievable level of history and provenance. The history file and general paperwork that accompanies this stunning, rebuilt MGA Twin Cam is quite sensational and there are just so many selling points to this beautiful car. Not only is this a Home Market UK supplied MGA Twin Cam that retains its original engine from the factory, we can track the cars entire life thanks to the pages and pages of handwritten letters on file, we have a huge file of invoices from the 1970’s and 1980’s when its owner of over 30 years attempted restoration and never completed it, ultimately selling the MG to the most recent owner in 2003 who spent around five years rebuilding the car and beautifully documenting it with a handwritten note book and comprehensive file of invoices Since restoration completion in 2008 the MG has covered around 3500 miles and not only does it look fantastic, it is quite sensational to drive.

WUY 427 is the cars original registration, allocated in Worcester on the 26th March 1959. The MG was supplied new by John Bryant & Sons Limited on the High Street in Bromsgrove to Sir Alfred William Wiggin, a junior armed forces minister and knighted British Politician based near Malvern, Worcestershire. The car was in joint ownership with his brother, Mr H. W Wiggin but they didn't keep the car long, selling it in 1960. This is confirmed on House of Commons letterhead from 1971. A letter on file from the next owner in 1971 explains how the car changed hands, a Newmarket based gentleman who worked for the Australian Government. On his return home from New Guinea, in April 1960 he purchased the MG and left it with his father in July 1960 when he headed to Africa. He didn't see the car again until 1963, his father had sold the car to a family friend, a farmer in Newmarket. The MGA now started to cover some miles and whilst changing hands again in 1966 and 1967, within Newmarket and then Kent, the MGA had covered 85, 000 miles by 1969 when sold to its owner of 34 years.

Paperwork on file explains the Twin Cam was in need of restoration work and pages and pages of invoices are on file throughout the 1970's. Its owner, Mr Langton never completed the restoration, and by 1983 it seems the car was just left dry stored. In 2003, it was sold to another long term owner and the car was then fully rebuilt to an excellent standard with documentation on file to support. The engine was rebuilt by Twin Cam expert Peter Wood, bodywork and paintwork were carried out by Orchard Restorations and the A was upgraded with a five speed gearbox. The MG was fully overhauled mechanically, all work detailed, and finished to a high standard with stunning paintwork, re-trimmed upholstery and weather equipment. Whilst the rebuild was completed over 17 years ago, the car has only covered a few thousand miles and therefore still presents to a very high standard. The MGA came to us from this long term owner in 2022, and we then supplied the car to one of our customers in West Yorkshire. Now approaching 90 years old and having covered 300 faultless miles in the car over a couple of show seasons he has decided its time to part with this classics.

On the road this MGA is superb, in fact superb is an understatement. The A holds the road perfectly and feels tight and firm, the rebuilt Twin Cam engine is strong and fit offering impressive performance and the five speed gearbox transforms the driving experience, making this ideal for long distance touring. The car has been superbly maintained since rebuild, and as result the car drives superbly. The Orient Red paintwork is of a beautiful standard, the bodywork lovely and straight, chrome work and upholstery is excellent, full weather gear is present, and the car has an impressive level of detail with a lovely engine bay and clean, well presented underbody. WUY 427 is a fabulous example, it has had just three owners over the past 54 years, has without doubt the most impressive history we have ever seen with an MGA, and is an all-round, fantastically usable MGA Twin Cam that's ready to enjoy.
