Description

The ADO16 range of small front-wheel-drive family cars were built by British Motor Corporation (BMC) and later, British Leyland, beginning in1962. BMC’s badge-engineering policy saw the model sold in Austin, Morris, Wolseley, Riley, MG and Vanden Plas variants with differing levels of trim, styling details and specification. It became Britain's best-selling car from 1963 to 1966 and from 1968 to 1971. Over 2. 25 million ADO16s were built.

Believed to be the only factory-produced 4-door MG 1300 MKII saloon, here is an opportunity to own a very rare piece of MG history. The BMIHT Heritage Certificate confirms that UHN 566F retains its original colour specification of Tartan Red with black interior. The recently refurbished wheels finished in Old English White provide an excellent contrast to the very smartly presented red paintwork.

This ultra-rare automatic model was built on the 2nd of January in 1968 before dispatch to a Manchester dealer from where it was sold to a Lady owner from Altrincham who kept the car for 13 years. Currently showing 67, 000 recorded miles on the odometer, almost 53, 000 miles was covered before the turn of the millennium. The comprehensive history file that comes with the car contains original MOT certificates, invoices and a documented ownership history. Most recent expenditure came in 2021 when the MGOC's workshop fitted new tyres, carried out a major service and fitted a new electronic ignition system.

On the road, this is a very spritely 1275cc saloon and its 4-speed automatic transmission changes effortlessly. The relatively long wheelbase and Hydrolastic suspension system gives this model a very comfortable and compliant ride, unexpected in a small saloon.

An exceptional MG 1300 MKII, which is ready to show or tour and a real rarity as an automatic amongst only about 100 remaining MG examples known to exist.
