An ES2 Norton home-built special
Built by a former motorcycle racer from the '70s/'80s
A lovely creation which 'looks the part'
A current V5C on file
Norton was founded by James Lansdowne Norton in Birmingham in 1898 and began building motorcycles with French and Swiss engines in 1902. In 1907 a Norton with a Peugeot engine won the first Isle of Man TT race starting a long tradition of sporting excellence. The sporty ES2 was popular due to its reliability and ease of maintenance, as well as the traditional design. From 1947, the ES2 had innovative hydraulically damped 'Roadholder' front forks and originally had a single downtube swinging-arm frame, later being housed in the legendary 'featherbed'.
This 1949 Norton based ES2 Special was created by a former motorcycle racer from the 1970s and 1980s. It looks like it could have been done at the factory; the base is an ES2 bottom end with a Norton 500T top end! The creator says it went well and was surprised by how it handled. He started the project over the winter months and finished in the spring. Due to other commitments in his life, it hasn't seen much use and it is now time for it to go to a new custodian. The 'special' is being offered with a V5C Registration Document.
