Looking for a stylish yet everyday classic for all the family at a great price? These W124 wagons offer legendary build quality and this very honest 3-owner from new example presented in Tourmaline Green with Mushroom hide looks equally at home at Ascot as it does the Sainsbury`s carpark. With sensible mileage and a long MoT to April 2026, our very late model E280 benefits from being the 7-seater option and would even be a highly suitable tow vehicle. A huge amount of car for the money.
A mid-sized executive car, the W124-Series was launched by Mercedes in 1984 and came in a variety of body styles from saloons to coupes and estates and a wide choice of both petrol and diesel engines. Packed with technology, estate variants featured Citroen-like self-levelling suspension with suspension struts and gas-filled suspension spheres with under bonnet pressurising pump. Facelifts in 1989 and 1993 saw further mechanical options introduced with production carrying on until 1996.
Our car was registered in London in March 1996 making it one of the very last off the production line. Unfortunately, we have very little history but are aware that from 2010 to earlier this year, it had been off the road and barn stored. This is indeed reflected in the online MoT history. In early Spring 2025, a decision was made to recommission it and get it road-ready and it came to us freshly Mot`d but requiring a deep clean. Whilst there is scope to detail further, we have gone as far as we wish to and the car now presents well, commensurate with its age and mileage of just over 141, 000.
The photographs I hope tell the story. This is a very honest and genuine example that is remarkably rust-free. That said, most panels do display age-related blemishes including stone chips and light scratches but the whole car polishes up nicely with recently refurbished alloys and tidy trim. Inside, the mushroom leather is clean and very presentable whilst cream carpets are generally very good with just a few marks within the rear load area. Turn the key and the 2799cc inline 6-cylinder engine fires immediately into life and with 193BHP on tap feels smooth and very responsive with seamless changes through the automatic gearbox, excellent brakes and a balanced ride. A short trip across the West Dorset Downs on a hot June afternoon reminded me just how good these W124 estates are. Very useable on a daily basis, they are supremely comfortable and offer a much more stylish alternative to a more modern yet very anonymous people carrier. Almost 30 years old, it is likely still to be on the road in another 30 years!
Our car comes with a current V5C, MoT Certificate to April 2026, a box full of spares and spare set of steel road wheels.
A genuine example of a modern classic for all the family. Great value too.
