When it was launched in 2016 the BMW M2 quickly developed a strong following amongst driving enthusiasts keen to see BMW return to the smaller, lighter and more driver orientated M-cars of the 80's and 90's. The original M2 featured a tuned version of the N55 3. 0-litre turbocharged straight six from the M235i and M135i, which produced a healthy 365hp and strong performance in a car weighing just 1, 500kg. But as is often the way with BMW the formula was refined over the years and the M2 Competition was launched in 2018 with the full-fat S55 3. 0-litre twin-turbocharged straight six from the M3. The final evolution of the breed was the CS, which came with an uprated 444bhp version on the S55 engine, but more importantly a bespoke chassis tune. Featuring adaptive damping, a tweaked active rear differential, revised suspension setup and bigger brakes alongside a carbon fibre bonnet, roof, rear diffuser, wing mirrors, front splitter and rear ducktail spoiler to reduce weight.
It is the CS that is the purists choice, with EVO Magazine describing it as "A hugely enjoyable and rewarding M car to drive, the F87 BMW M2 CS is an eCoty champion and a sure-fire future classic". With just 2, 200 made (and just over 100 shipped to the UK) finding a good M2 CS isn't easy, but finding one in the ultimate drivers spec (with the 6-speed manual transmission and carbon ceramic brakes) is harder still.
Owned by a BMW fanatic and a great friend of GQ this M2 CS has sat as part of a BMW M-car collection and used sparingly for trips to Bicester Scramble and Goodwood events. With only 9, 000 miles it has been used lightly and serviced well and benefits from a recently extended BMW warranty. Our owner spent 2 years searching for a car with just the right specification (black paintwork, manual transmission and carbon ceramic brakes) and is delighted that he waited for the right car. But lack of use and consolidation of his collection is forcing him to reluctantly let go of his pride and joy.
