This Capri 3. 0 Ghia (manual) was first registered on 6th March 1978, making it a very early example of the Mk3 Capri. Being a top spec, early car on ‘YEV’ registration makes it very likely to have been a factory demonstrator for Ford. Originally finished in Oyster Gold with brown interior, the car was painted red in the late 80s and then finally Tibetan Gold when it was converted to ’S’ specification around 10 years ago. This Capri 3. 0 has been in our family for the last 14 months and has had £2, 900 of recent expenditure to get it driving and performing as it should for the next owner. Overall the car is in excellent structural and mechanical condition with a great interior, however there is scope for cosmetic improvement to the bodywork in areas.

The car has a good history file consisting of many invoices and receipts detailing a huge amount of work approx 10 years ago including: metalwork & paint (nearly £10, 000), trimming ’S’ Recaro seats in black beta cloth, fitting ’S’ door cards, carpet, new doors with glass (hence the bronze door glass) and many other parts. The underside of the Capri is in truly fantastic, rust-free condition with no signs of dodgy or cheap repairs, the chassis rails, floors and sills are all straight and true, with solid metal and no thick underseal coverings. Unfortunately the external body seems to have been a bit neglected in the couple of years preceding our ownership and some bubbles have formed in the common places, the worst of it being a cluster on the leading edge of the bonnet and a home-repair on the cowl/ scuttle (detailed photos can be sent on request). We believe the same owner fitted 15-inch JBW wheels with Firestone tyres and rolled the arches to get them to clear, as such there is some paint missing on the NSR arch. However, we believe these issues would only need to be localised repairs as the car is in excellent condition in the important areas, including the engine bay, inner wings, bulkhead, strut tops and wing tops. The interior is also in fantastic condition with the later ’S’ seats having been re-trimmed in black beta cloth and a very good set of ’S’ door cards fitted alongside the other work carried out. The dashboard is in good shape with the only damage being some cracking on the top speaker grill, the original radio is still fitted (albeit not connected) and the switchgear is free of any major wear.

Mechanically, the car is in very fine fettle too with approximately £2, 900 spent in the last few months to get it performing as it should and driving perfectly. The following work was carried out: general inspection; full service including spark plugs, brake fluid, oil & filter, fuel filter; magic eye electronic ignition; new fuse box and fuses fitted; new steering column spacers; new engine mounts; new viscous fan coupling; re-working of exhaust system to stop interference with body. The ‘Essex’ V6 was overhauled at 66, 000 miles (in 2015) including an unleaded head conversion and therefore is very healthy and the car feels spritely, it sounds lovely too thanks to the tubular manifolds and big-bore exhaust system. Although registered as a historic vehicle, we also put the car through an MOT, which it passed with no advisories. As expected from the above work, the Capri now goes, handles and stops very well with no unwanted noises or sensations.

Overall, this 3. 0-litre Capri is a good, solid example that’s ready to be used, with room for cosmetic improvement. The car is based at our studio in Bicester, please contact Greg with any questions, or to arrange a viewing.
