Slotting Velocette's wonderful pre-war K-Series overhead-camshaft engine into later cycle parts has long been an accepted practice among aficionados of the Hall Green factory's products, and this example combines a swinging-arm frame dating from late 1959/ early 1960 and a KSS MkII engine dating from 1947, the final year of production.
Introduced for the 1936 season, the MkII version of the KSS/ KTS represented a major redesign, featuring many improvements including a new aluminium-alloy cylinder head with enclosed valve-gear, plus the cradle frame and heavyweight Webb forks of the new MSS tourer. In this form the KSS resumed production post-war in November 1946 before being updated, together with the other road models, with (optional) Dowty Oleomatic telescopic front forks in August 1947. Expensive to produce, the KSS was dropped from the range at the year's end.
This Velocette hybrid was purchased by the vendor in 2006 as a complete special. Not much is known of its previous history, who put it together or what was done to it while in Neil's care. Like all Neil's motorcycles, it has been dry stored and will need recommissioning before returning to the road. Offered with a V5C, an old-style logbook, and sundry invoices.
