1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 (R129) – Florida Import – Running Project
White Mercedes-Benz SL500 with blue leather interior, sold new in Maryland and registered in Florida within its first year. The car remained in Florida ever since.
The third owner purchased it in 2002, at around 30, 000 miles, and kept it for nearly twenty years. Carfax shows a few minor accidents over that period. The odometer now reads 126. 706 miles. A service sticker mentions a valve job at 115, 000 miles, but no other records are available.
This SL500 runs and drives, but needs both cosmetic and mechanical attention.
The engine rattles at idle and oil pressure is low. We have not investigated further; possible causes may include the timing chain, hydraulic lifters, valve seals.
Power output appears normal during a short test drive.
Bodywork shows wear: stone chips, scratches, and scuffs. A small rust spot is visible under the right rear tail light, and the lower front bumper has a repairable crack.
Interior needs refurbishment, especially new blue leather seat covers.
The hard top was not removed; assume the soft top requires replacement. The convertible top module works (red warning light operational), but the hydraulic cylinders will likely need new seals.
A complete and largely rust-free R129 SL500 with an attractive colour combination and long-term Florida ownership history. An ideal running project for a capable enthusiast or specialist workshop.
