Description

HAN 206N is a structurally excellent, strong driving, reliable entry level classic. This is also a car that has spent the past 36 years with one owner who has loved owning it. It was purchased in 1989 when he was a student studying at University. The car has stayed with its long term owner throughout his student days, his career that led to being on the board of Directors of UK based Oil & Gas PLC and when leaving Edinburgh for North Yorkshire many years ago, the car followed on. With a growing family and commitments, the cars early life saw its more serious mileage and since a new re-conditioned engine and clutch in 2000 the car has covered just 4000 miles.

The car records 95, 000 miles, likely to be its genuine mileage from new. Having had its engine in 2000, it was 2017 when the car came to us at Malton Coachworks for a major service and refresh. Work included new front brake discs, pads and calipers, a new brake master cylinder, new clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, a new radiator, a new timing cover gasket, a service, and a full set of new tyres. Alongside the mechanical refresh, the car was subject to a full outer respray taking the exterior to a lovely standard.

More recently the B has benefited from a set of points and a condenser, a full service, new rear wheel cylinders and brake pipes. The car passed an MOT in October 2025 with a clean bill of health providing the utmost confidence in the car while also being the last MOT required before being registered for the historic tax class. On road test you will soon have the impression on how well sorted this car is mechanically. From the strong pull of the in-line 4-cylinder engine, and the smooth transitions between gears it does give great confidence and of course, it was delivered to us for that one final drive, performing faultlessly and reliably as it has for so many years.

This MG presents well with a nice paint finish, its not pristine and the engine bay could be much improved but it is a fantastic entry level, usable MGB GT that has been much loved, just not in the detailing department. The interior is very original and presents well throughout. It’s been a great classic to own, drive and enjoy, it’s unlikely ever attended a classic car show but would suit someone wanting to spend the winter months preparing a car for rallies and events. With no major expenditure required, it’s an MGB to just keep and drive like it’s long term owner, or take to the next level.

Having just been MOT tested and serviced, at this price it’s not a car we plan to prepare in our workshops. You can jump in and drive across the U. K. tomorrow, it’s a car to drive and own with confidence.
