Armstrong Siddeley 346 Sapphire 1955 Quintessentially at the very top of British built cars that graced our roads at a time when elegance and a presence was second to none.
Part of the Hawker Siddeley aircraft division, the build quality was superb and still reflects today with the few well cared for examples now being highly prized by their enthusiastic owners. This example is indeed a very interesting car having been owned for many years by a very prominent member of the Armstrong Siddeley Owners club and I think it’s fair to say that they seem to have a knack of sourcing the best examples as was certainly true in this instance. Purchased by him in 1995 with just 31, 000 miles he kept the car until 2012 taking the mileage to 61, 000 miles.
It was then purchased by a very prominent lady for social occasional trips to the likes of Ascot and other prestigious functions, whilst keeping the car correctly stored and maintained.
Apart from a couple of very small imperfections on the coachwork the car presents in truly superb condition with a deep gloss to the paintwork and really good chrome all round. The underside shows no areas of repairs and again has been well looked after with a chassis that’s built like a tank. All doors close under their own weight and the original oatmeal leather upholstery is in fine order as is all the interior including the headlining. Lovely period possibly HMV radio graces the walnut dash, with all tools present and correct in the boot pull out tool tray. More recent full service carried out to include new clutch and all oils changed. This example with the twin carburettors produced 150 bhp when new and was good for 100mph not bad when you consider what was around in 1955. Comes complete with invoices of maintenance, manuals, technical data books, V5c, along with full details of the superb Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club and their extensive spares backup. Rare factory power steering kit is available should one want to fit it.
