Description
L’Atelier des 1000 presents this elegant Mercedes-Benz 560 SL R107 in a particularly seductive configuration, pairing a navy blue finish with a grey leather interior. This iconic convertible perfectly illustrates the automotive refinement of the 70s and 80s. Shown here in its top-spec variant, the 560 SL is the culmination of the R107 range with its powerful 5. 6‑litre V8, its high level of equipment and its Grand Tourer orientation. A true concentrate of Mercedes‑Benz savoir-faire, the W107 still stands today as an essential reference in the world of classic cars. The 560 SL version, developed for the North American market, is distinguished by its great reliability, ease of use and remarkable versatility, offering a pleasant, no-compromise usage. Our example was delivered new in the United States in January 1988, making it one of the last models produced. It benefits from the 1988 evolutions, offering optimised engine management, a smoother gearbox, firmer seat foams, a modern fuse box and better original equipment. The vehicle is accompanied by an extensive invoice file, including over €30, 000 of maintenance in the last 15 years, testifying to the constant care it has received. Particularly well optioned by its first owner, the car features numerous options such as: • perforated grey leather upholstery • air conditioning • electrically heated mirrors • Becker Grand Prix radio • automatic antenna • fold-down centre armrest • sun visors with vanity mirror and courtesy light • thermally insulated windscreen • blue hood fabric to match. Mechanically, the 5. 6L V8 starts easily, with no noise or smoke, and delivers its power smoothly. Maintenance was performed for sale as well as replacement of the eight spark plugs. The engine compressions have also been checked; they are within factory tolerances and well balanced. The timing chain, along with its guides and tensioners, has already been replaced. The fuel pump, fuel distributor and ignition service are recent. The automatic transmission is smooth, with seamless gear changes and no shudders. It has just been drained, with the sump screen and transmission pan seal replaced. The axle group has also been drained for the occasion. The suspension performs perfectly. All four dampers have been replaced by more modern units, giving this SL a comfortable yet precise handling. Numerous silent blocs and mounts have also been replaced to ensure impeccable safety and driving accuracy. The CV joint boots as well as the upper and lower ball joint joints are also new. The power-steering reservoir has been replaced less than 30, 000 miles ago for over €3, 500, ensuring the flawless operation of the system known as the Achilles’ heel of the model. The exhaust is in very good condition; it subtly enhances the round, characteristic V8 note. Braking is strong and balanced. The master cylinder and front brake calipers were replaced a few years ago, with new rear flexible hoses and front pads. The original wheels are in very good condition and wearing tyres with fair wear. The bodywork is in very good condition and the paint has a nice shine. All the chrome is perfectly gleaming. The underbody shows very well, free of corrosion, like the rest of the vehicle. The alpaca blue soft top is in excellent condition, having been replaced in 2012 and showing no notable marks or defects, once again highlighting the car’s maintenance quality. The original hardtop is present and in very good condition. The interior, understated and elegant, typical of the marque, is well preserved and aims to be comfortable. The seat trim was refurbished about ten years ago, ensuring good support and a nice presentation of the upholstery. We note, however, a trace of wear on the driver’s seat, reflecting the car’s regular use. The dashboard is in perfect condition, having undergone a full cosmetic refit to high standards for around €4, 000. The wood veneers are well preserved, with a patina most visible on the central console, typical of R107 interiors. An occasional rear bench can be installed as an option for a 4-seat configuration. Given its configuration, overall condition and the quality of its upkeep, this 560SL is offered at £25, 990. Trade-ins and swaps considered.
