Description
The time has come to start thinking about letting my lovely 1997 Omega go to a new home. It has been under our ownership for a couple of years now and in that time we’ve been to various car shows, had many days out, trips away etc and it’s been nothing but a pleasure to own. Comfortable, spacious, plenty of power and effortless to drive. However, we’re finding that with more trips to London to see family, we need something of equal comfort and size but ULEZ compliant which the Omega is not unfortunately. This is the only reason for sale.
The condition of the car speaks for itself. It was garaged for most of its life and rarely driven in wet or salty conditions. The only things to mention are a light scratch and some very minor bubbling on the lip of the arches that I doubt would be too difficult to put right. But generally it is excellent for its age in its jungle green metallic paintwork. Underneath is clean and remarkably free of any rust. See attached photo of it up on a ramp.
Mechanically the car is excellent and has been nothing but 100% reliable for us in all conditions. Mileage is currently 79650 this may increase very slightly as it’s still being used occasionally. The V6 is smooth and torquey and sounds fantastic. The four speed autobox is responsive and smooth and works as it should.
The car has wanted for nothing throughout it’s life and comes with a box file of receipts going back to the early 2000’s but but most recently the following has been done:
74166 miles - oil/ filter changed
75175 miles - timing belt and water pump replaced (October 2024)
75415 miles - exhaust centre and rear sections replaced
75484 miles - front suspension lower arms replaced
79524 miles - rear coolant hose and thermostat replaced
In addition it’s had 4 new Dunlop All season 2 tyres fitted in September 2024, the aircon condenser, compressor and high pressure hose was replaced last year, a new battery fitted and a modern Sony Bluetooth/ DAB stereo is currently fitted although I do have the original headunit to supply with the car.
Mechanically the car is excellent and I’d happily drive it any distance with confidence. The only thing I was going to replace if I was keeping the car is the shock absorbers as my garage mentioned that they’re getting a bit worn (the ride is lovely and soft!)
I do have a brand new set of Bilstein B4 shocks which I’m happy to supply with the car if the new owner wishes for an additional £260.
If you are looking for an Omega to cut up and drift then this isn’t for you. I wont sell it to anyone I suspect is intending to do that. This is an excellent example of a rare car that needs an enthusiast to keep it in the condition it’s in.
