Description
This 1972 Ford Transit Custom pickup has been fully restored to a very high standard, with attention paid to both appearance and mechanical condition. The bodywork has been stripped back and refinished in blue, and the paint presents to a top-quality level throughout. The chassis is exceptionally clean, having been fully stripped, rebuilt and painted, and there is no rust anywhere on the vehicle.
The mechanicals have been comprehensively rebuilt, and the truck starts, idles and drives smoothly, with all gears engaging as they should. Nothing feels tired or overlooked, and its road manners match the quality of its presentation.
A new interior has been fitted, including seat upholstery, door cards and floor mats. The cab has been stripped back and repainted in the same blue as the exterior, while the dash retains its original simple wood-and-steel style. Overall, the interior is tidy, fresh and in keeping with the period.
The load bed has been fully restored and updated, complete with a new blue canvas cover. New tyres are fitted to the original painted steel wheels. All chrome and brightwork has been re-chromed or replaced and is in excellent condition. The photographs show the truck’s overall pristine finish and the level of detail in the restoration.
Originally designed as dependable workhorses, early Ford Transits like this one earned their place on British roads through sheer usefulness — tradesmen, delivery drivers and small businesses relied on them daily throughout the 1970s. Today, their simple engineering, honest styling and rarity in clean condition make them desirable classics. Most were used hard and never survived long enough to be restored; examples rebuilt to this standard are few and tend to attract attention at shows and events.
This Transit has effectively moved from life as a working tool to a well-presented show vehicle. Its condition, both inside and out, speaks for itself.
