Description
A great, ready to use, example of the ever-loved W124 estate, or S124 if we’re being pedantic.
Supplied new in 1995 by Woking Motors, its first owner was McLaren Racing. They ordered it with its rare but very attractive Onyx Grey paintwork, perfectly complemented by black leather upholstery, which gives the car a very contemporary feel.
The specification is great too, with very desirable options including air conditioning, 7-seats, automatic transmission and 2x (both) electric front seats.
Today it has covered 141k miles, which is less than 5000 per year and nothing for one of these cars. There’s a full service history with stamps in the service book for the early years and a folder of receipts covering more recent years. Notably in 2022 the cylinder head gasket was replaced by a Mercedes main dealer.
When we acquired the car we found that, like most late 124s, corrosion was starting to attack the structure of the car. None of this could be easily seen but it has to be addressed for these cars to have a future. So, we have done a huge amount of work to this car, most of which is invisible to the casual observer! The front left inner wings section has been replaced, three of the jacking points have been replaced, the complete rear axle was removed to allow one of the subframe mounts to be replaced, along with a few other essential repairs. So now this estate is super solid underneath and ready for action. It’s just passed its MoT with no advisories.
The body is very clean and tidy as the photos show. There are a couple of minor paint imperfections on the offside but it’s perfect for a car that’s going to be used and enjoyed rather than a show car. The wheels have just been refurbished and wear recent tyres with plenty of tread.
The interior is in great condition and wearing its miles very well. There’s a more modern stereo fitted, but otherwise it remains original, even retaining its original ribbed mats.
Drives great and the A/ C blows cold when it’s needed.
In summary, if you’re looking for a rock-solid, well-maintained 124 estate to drive as intended, the this could be the one. These are so hard to find now. Great colours and an interesting history too.
