This Roadsport SV contains the later 160bhp itteration of the VVC engine used in the Superlight R300, and with it are a combination of options which could make this one of the very best all-round Sevens…
The VVC version of the K-Series engine allowed for Variable Valve Control. Fundamentally this enable the engine to produce more power by altering the speed at which the valves opened and closed as the engine changed in RPM. In working practice, although this alteration to the engine did produce more power, it’s real gain was in torque.
Pairing this torque to Caterham’s 5 speed gearbox rather than the 6 speed used in the R300 meant that each of the gears were longer, allowing you the longer legs you might need for long distance cruising. In this case, this Roadsport was also fitted with a larger ratio 3. 9 limited slip differential, which does the job of shortening all of the gear ratios. In working practice, this creates an excellent middle ground between Caterham’s super close ratio 6 speed and their much long ratio 5 speed. With this combination of torque, power and transmission, you will find that you always have the perfect gear for any situation, whether on the racetrack or the motorway.
In addition to the engine and transmision found in this Roadsport, this Seven was also treated to Caterham’s uprated suspension and brake packages, giving it superb handling characteristics and awesome stopping power, whilst retaining the Roadsports comfort.
Complete with Caterham’s full weather equipment, spare wheel and tyre and a De-Cat pipe for little added fun, this SV has pretty much everthing.
