Background:The BMW 3 Series E30, introduced in 1982, remains one of the most celebrated compact saloons of its era. Renowned for its precise handling, balanced chassis and robust engineering, it quickly established itself as both a desirable road car and a formidable motorsport contender. Available in a wide range of specifications, from practical four-door saloons to high performance coupés, the E30 has since gained enduring classic status and enjoys strong support among enthusiasts. Its timeless styling and mechanical durability continue to attract collectors seeking a usable and engaging classic.
The 1990 BMW E30 325i Sport M-Tech II is one of the most desirable non-M variants of the E30 generation, often referred to as the baby M3 due to its aggressive factory styling and performance-oriented upgrades. The Sport model with the M-Tech II package was a factory-specified trim that included both aesthetic and mechanical enhancements. Unlike the earlier M-Tech I, the Phase 2 (post-1987) kit featured integrated front and rear valances, side skirts, door pods, and a larger two-tier rear spoiler. Mechanical Upgrades included a Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) and M-Technic suspension, which lowered the car by approximately 15mm using Boge shock absorbers.
The Car:First registered in 1990, this example has been in current ownership since 2009, during which time it has benefited from extensive restoration work and careful long-term storage. In 2009, the car underwent a comprehensive programme that included a full respray in Dolphin Grey, a complete engine rebuild, gearbox overhaul and the differential rebuilt to original specification. Since the work was completed, the engine has covered only around 2, 000 miles, reflecting the sparing use the car has seen during its time in the present ownership.
The car has been kept in dry storage throughout the last 16 years, helping to preserve both its mechanical and cosmetic condition. Further recent expenditure within the past five years has included a new fuel tank and fuel pump, the fitment of new BBS RS wheels, and the installation of a new battery.
