You’ve likely never seen one in real life, or possibly even knew it existed, but this is one of the rarest 40 Series Land Cruisers to be produced by Toyota, and only the second BJ42 LX Hogg & Swan has had the pleasure to offer for sale. This is the top-of-the-line luxury model that was mostly offered for sale in Australia and the Middle East. It features the 3B 3432cc diesel engine, front-facing back seats (6 seater), factory disc brakes and power steering, original air conditioning, heater control system, 3 window wipers, rev counter, sliding rear windows, full floating rear axle, and other additional trims and features.
This is a 2 owner, unrestored example that was sold new in Australia and always used in a dry climate. The original bodywork is showing patina and history which adds to its charm. Repainted once in the mid 90s and still holding up well. There is no rust or rot, only some minor surface blemishes. Always well serviced, this Land Cruiser has never missed a beat and it’s ready to tour the UK and Europe tomorrow! Cruises the highway happily at 110kph, and with the 3B 3432cc engine there is no lack of power. The 4 speed transmission has a very low ratio which has you not selecting 4th gear until above 80kph. The brakes stop on a dime, the steering is tight, this BJ42 LX is suitable to be enjoyed and driven daily. Highway, farm, mountains, suburbs, you will enjoy it on any terrain. With the original AC (very rare), heater control, and original sound deadening, it’s good to go in any season too.

To find one in such excellent unrestored condition continues to add to its rarity, examples like this are not available. If you want something no one else has, a solid investment classic, an original Land Cruiser that hasn’t been restored unknowingly, and a classic car that you can really drive and thoroughly use without the worry of damage or repairs, this is it. Although very rare and valuable, this is still a Toyota and parts are cheap, widely available online, and servicing is straightforward. 40 Series prices are and will continue to boom, and buying the top-of-the-line model is worth it from an investment and collector’s point of view.
