Widely regarded as one of the finest Mercedes-Benz roadsters of the modern era, the R129 SL combined elegant styling, exceptional engineering and everyday usability in a manner few contemporaries could match. Introduced in 1989 and designed under the direction of legendary Mercedes-Benz stylist Bruno Sacco, the R129 featured clean, timeless lines and a host of technological innovations, including an automatically deploying rollover bar, sophisticated suspension systems and advanced safety features. More than three decades after its introduction, the model continues to enjoy strong admiration amongst enthusiasts, many viewing it as one of the last traditionally over-engineered Mercedes-Benz designs.
The SL320 occupied a particularly appealing position within the range, pairing smooth and dependable six-cylinder performance with refined long-distance touring ability. Powered by Mercedes-Benz's 3. 2-litre inline-six engine and coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission, it offered effortless cruising and understated performance befitting the marque's grand touring pedigree.
Finished in blue over light tan leather, this handsome 1995 example is presented with 83, 543 on the odometer, and in lovely order throughout, invoices show a c.£8, 000 expenditure since 2024 to iron out any niggles and to see the car presented in fine mechanic and cosmetic order.
Recent works include a full service, four new Michelin tyres and Lanoguard underbody protection in November 2025, head gasket replacement in August 2025, a new alternator in January 2025, and a full service with replacement water pump in November 2024. Earlier expenditure during July 2024 included replacement rear brake discs, new roof hydraulic rams and a replacement central locking pump. These works complement an extensive history file documenting previous maintenance.
The blue cloth hood was renewed approximately four years ago and remains in excellent condition. Recently installed Alpine Bluetooth radio. The vendor advises that all functions operate correctly, with the exception of the remote locking transmitter, the central locking system itself functioning normally via the supplied keys. Apart from a minor blemish to the rear bumper, the bodywork is presented in very good order, with no corrosion reported and a notably clean underside.
Accompanied by a new MOT issued with no advisories, this well-sorted SL320 is offered ready for immediate enjoyment. Increasingly appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts alike, the R129 has established itself as a modern classic of genuine significance, combining timeless styling, engineering integrity and everyday usability in a highly desirable package.
