Description
Finished in the particularly striking combination of Polar White with Black Leather interior, together with its matching Polar White factory hardtop and contrasting black fabric soft top, this is an exceptionally attractive example of the increasingly sought after R129 generation SL.
Delivered new in July 1994 through Mercedes-Benz main agent Vikings of Canterbury, the car has covered an extraordinarily low 15, 628 miles from new and has had just three former keepers.
What really sets this SL apart is not simply its remarkably low mileage, but the originality and overall condition that accompany it. So many R129s have now covered substantial mileages or have suffered from periods of indifferent maintenance; finding a genuinely low-mileage example with excellent provenance, known history and the right presentation is becoming increasingly difficult.
We know this particular car well. When previously offered by us, it was comprehensively prepared through our own Mercedes-Benz workshops. This included a maintenance service, replacement of all relevant fluids and the important replacement of the engine wiring loom. It subsequently passed into private ownership and has now returned to us, giving us the rare opportunity to offer the car for a second time.
The SL is accompanied by its original handbooks and service booklet together with an impressive supporting history file containing invoices and previous MoT certificates, helping to substantiate the exceptionally low mileage and careful ownership the car has enjoyed.
The R129 has deservedly established itself as one of Mercedes-Benz's great modern classics. Developed at enormous cost and engineered during an era for which Mercedes-Benz became renowned for exceptional build quality, the R129 combined traditional SL qualities with a far more sophisticated and modern driving experience.
The SL320 is also an especially appealing version of the range. Its smooth six-cylinder engine provides effortless performance while retaining the refinement and usability that make these cars so enjoyable for longer journeys. With the factory hardtop fitted it becomes an accomplished year round grand tourer, while the electrically operated soft top transforms it into a proper open Mercedes-Benz roadster when the weather allows.
Prior to delivery to its next owner, the car will once again pass through our own workshops for inspection, servicing and MoT.
At just over 15, 000 miles from new, examples of this calibre are now extremely difficult to replace. For somebody looking for an R129 to preserve, enjoy and continue to maintain to a high standard, we believe this represents a particularly special opportunity.
Viewing and road testing are highly recommended and are available by appointment.
