Lot 948
A 1927 Humber 14/ 40 All-Weather Tourer.
Reg No. HU 9485.
Car No. 14373.
Engine No. 14373.
Blue and black with black interior.
For the 1927 season, the replacement for the Humber 12/ 25 was the 14/ 40, four-cylinder IOE engine with a capacity of 2020cc. The 14/ 40 was to become one of the most popular and therefore most successful vintage products. The open tourers benefitted from superior all-weather equipment featuring side-screens that wound down into the doors. Beautifully finished, these cars were considered very up-market at the time.
This example, bought by the vendor after a conversation with the previous owner in a restaurant in France, had received extensive refurbishment and restoration prior to the purchase. The file includes photographs, bills, and correspondence that attest to the work involved.
