1971 Bedford CF Bedouin Camper – Ratburger Film Burger Van – UK V5C Motor Caravan
For sale is a highly unusual 1971 Bedford CF camper, registration PHK 713K, believed to be the vehicle used as Burt’s burger van in the 2017 film ‘Ratburger’, based on the David Walliams childrensa book.
The vehicle is UK registered with V5C present and is recorded by DVLA as a Bedford Motor Caravan, not as a van, trailer or unregistered prop vehicle. The V5C records historic vehicle taxation class, 1975cc petrol engine and a revenue weight of 2240kg.
That recorded weight is a useful point from a driving-licence perspective, as it sits comfortably below the 3500kg threshold generally associated with heavier motorhomes. Buyers should always check their own licence entitlement, but this is a much more accessible proposition than a large coachbuilt motorhome requiring C1 entitlement.
The van appears to have started life as a CI Autohomes / Caravans International Bedouin coachbuilt camper conversion before later being dressed for filming as the distinctive “Burt’s Burgers” van seen in Ratburger.
Period CI Motorhomes brochure material described the Bedford Bedouin as being “designed and equipped to range far and wide”, and this example now offers the chance to create a modern, usable camper interior inside a rare historic Bedford CF motor caravan with film provenance.
The original camper fittings are largely no longer present, giving the next owner the opportunity to design the interior from scratch rather than being tied to an outdated 1970s layout.
The vehicle starts on the ignition, ticks over, selects gear and has been driven under its own power on site. The brakes do operate, but only in a basic fashion, so the vehicle should be treated as requiring recommissioning before road use.
It would make a superb promotional vehicle, events camper, show vehicle, film/ TV display piece or unusual classic camper project.
