AUSTIN BIG 7 BBU 481

First registered 2nd January 1939

In 2021 this car was given a complete body off restoration by the current owner, an avid Austin 7 collector. Professional specialists were called in house to complete much of the work. Now reluctantly being sold as he is as old as the car.

The chassis and axles:

• The chassis was shot blasted and found in remarkably original condition. It was then coated with POR15 2 coat rust proofing
• The rear axle was treated to new CWP and torque tube bearings
• The hub bearings were replaced throughout.
• The brake cables and rods were replaced or refurbished as were the pivots and linings.
• Brakes are re-lined with bonded linings
• The king pins and bushes were replaced on the front axle as were the steering joints
• The steering box was re-bushed and adjusted
• The wheels were shotblasted and powder coated
• The petrol tank was cleaned and refitted with new copper piping
• 5 new tyres were fitted supplied by Longstone
• New chrome hubcaps are fitted
The engine and gearbox:

• The engine was rebored with new pistons and a crank grind completed with new mains and big ends
• A brand new camshaft and timing chain was fitted.
• Valves and springs were replaced
• The starter and dynamo were rebuilt by the renowned Maltby electrics.
• The control box and voltage regulator was cleaned and found to be in remarkable condition.
• The original 6v system is retained
• A new Bosch battery was fitted
• A new clutch plate was fitted
• The gearbox was rebuilt by specialist Andy Bird.
• New hoses and water take-offs were fitted.
• The radiator was refurbished already so required no work from us
The bodywork:

• The body was removed and new passenger compartment floor fitted
• A new boot floor and inner arches were fitted
• New side cills were fabricated and fitted
• The drop-down boot mechanism, platform and lock were refurbished
• Front and rear wings were taken down to bare metal and all attachment holes refurbished
• They were refitted with stainless steel nuts and bolts and new piping
• The bodywork was rust primed and then finished in green over black
• New Stewart Joseph repro headlights are fitted with dipswitch.
• Original refurbished front and rear bumpers are fitted,
Instrumentation and controls

• The instruments were cleaned and found to be in sound original condition.
• The fuel gauge indicates as do ammeter and oil pressure gauges.
• The control switch was cleaned and refitted. It works as it should
• A master cut-off switch is fitted with easy access
• Gears change smoothly and synchromesh is good

Interior

• The front seats, rear seats and door cards are professionally re-upholstered in a matching suede green
• New floor carpets are black with green hedge trim
• New grey headlining covers the roof and fully operational sun roof
• The dashboard and door trims were repainted similar to the original
