Lightweight, agile and packed with character, the RD400 earned a loyal following thanks to its exhilarating performance, sharp handling and unmistakable two-stroke soundtrack. Powered by a lively 398cc air-cooled parallel-twin two-stroke engine, it delivered strong acceleration, crisp throttle response and the thrilling power delivery that made Yamaha's RD range legendary.

Equally at home on twisting country roads or displayed proudly at classic motorcycle events, the RD400 cemented Yamaha's reputation as a leader in high-performance two-stroke engineering. Today, it remains one of the most sought-after and collectable Japanese classics, admired for its timeless styling, engaging riding experience and enduring appeal.

EXTERNAL

The fuel tank and side panels display an excellent finish, while the period-correct graphics remain crisp and well-defined, perfectly complementing the motorcycle's classic sporting lines.

The black-finished engine and chassis components provide a striking contrast against the White and Red bodywork, with the Yamaha badging standing out exactly as intended.

Showing just over 12400 miles, this RD400 has clearly benefitted from careful ownership throughout its life. The chrome front and rear mudguards remain bright and highly presentable, while the polished front forks, rear suspension and brightwork all reflect the level of care the motorcycle has received over the years.

The switchgear operates correctly, with the factory ignition switch and matching key functioning as they should helping to preserve the bike's authentic period appearance.

The dual seat is trimmed in black with the correct period pattern and retaining strap, remaining in excellent condition with very little sign of wear. The frame and chassis are equally well presented, further demonstrating the care and attention this classic Yamaha has enjoyed.

Ahead of the rider sits the traditional twin-clock instrument cluster, comprising a speedometer and rev counter, both operating correctly and providing the information expected from a classic Yamaha of this era. The accompanying warning lights and handlebar controls function as intended, while the levers and grips retain their reassuring factory-correct feel.

Lifting the seat reveals a clean and tidy under-seat area, further highlighting the originality and well-maintained nature of this highly desirable Yamaha RD400 Air cooled. With just over 12400 miles from new, this is a superb example of one of Yamaha's most iconic and collectable two-stroke motorcycles
