1930 Austin Seven ‘AF’ Chummy (awaiting preparation)
Introduced in mid-1930, the ‘AF’ Series marked the final incarnation of the much-loved Austin Seven Tourer with the traditional vintage-style ‘Chummy’ body. Characterised by its small doors, lightweight aluminium coachwork and unmistakable proportions, it represents the end of an era before Austin moved to steel-bodied production with the ‘AG’ Series in late 1931.
First registered in October 1930, this particular example is notably correct and retains its original Surrey registration number. Restored to a very good standard some years ago, it continues to present extremely well and has clearly been carefully maintained since.
The car is complemented by excellent, well-fitting weather equipment, including a hood, two-piece tonneau cover and hood bag. Discreet flashing indicators and hazard warning lights have also been fitted, providing a welcome degree of additional safety for modern-day motoring without detracting from the Chummy’s period appearance.
We know this Austin particularly well, having owned it ourselves some years ago as part of our personal collection. During that time it proved remarkably reliable and great fun to use - exactly as a good Austin Seven should be. We also enjoyed a Cotswolds weekend rally in her.
Charming, characterful and wonderfully usable, this is a delightful example of one of the most enduring and instantly recognisable small British vintage cars. Whether for local outings, club events or simply the pleasure of unhurried vintage motoring, it offers all the appeal and simplicity for which the Austin Seven remains so highly regarded.
