I bought this car in 1981 when I was in my early 20's. Drove her to Uni once per week for three years and then a few miles to work everyday until 1988 when I was given my first company car. I Wax oiled her throughout in 1982 and installed a contactless Sparkrite electronic ignition which still works perfectly today. In 1986 I fitted a Grundy stainless steel exhaust throughout which is perfectly serviceable. Between 1988 and 1994 she was parked on my driveway and had occasional outings.
In 1994 I sold her to a dear friend of mine. I knew he would look after her. He and his family used her daily until the summer of 2002 when he needed a bigger car to tow his caravan. His family nick named her 'The Bomber'. In 2002 he drove the Bomber into his garage locked her up and closed the doors and there she stayed until 2010.
As is often the case space becomes a major factor in family life and in April 2010 The Bomber had to find a new home so I bought her back. After a lot of TLC throughout the summer of 2010 she finally regained an MOT on 16th October 2010. She has just had her 3rd MOT and has passed everytime with few comments.
She has had quite a few new parts, including the entire braking system, pipework and hoses, clutch, battery, rear bumper, custom made headlining, radiator, headlights, accelerator cable, carburettor diaphram, hub caps and numerous small parts including another tin of Waxoil.
The engine is in great condition, starts first time everytime no matter how hot or cold it is or how long she's been standing. Emmissions are really low. Drives well.
Currently the oddometer says 47, 000 miles but I cannot fully substantiate that. She is MOT'd and Taxed until October 2013 when she will celebrate her 33rd birthday.
Everywhere we go she brings a smile to peoples faces.
