Description
Caterham Seven Roadsport 140
In 1973 Lotus decided to shed its kit car image and sold the rights to the ‘7’ to its only remaining agents in England, Caterham Cars. Initially they used the remaining Lotus S4 kits but by 1974 these had been exhausted and they reverted to their own version of the S3. The S3’s in a number of guises, were quickly acknowledged as a truly outstanding car for both fast road/ track use and today attract a loyal following, have their own extremely competitive race series and an extremely active club
Our 2004 Roadsport 140 X-power is one of the most desirable Caterham 7’s specifications, meticulously hand built as an engineering project by the first owner during the summer of 2004 and then despatched to Caterham’s for full PBC (Post Build Check) and each service while in his ownership.
The car is one of the best specifications you could wish for:
1800cc MG X-Power (Rover) K Series 16v DOHC fuel injected developing 140hp @ 6, 750rpm
Power to weight ratio = 250bhp/ tonne giving 0-60mph of just under 5 seconds
Anti-cavitation “Apollo” Oil Tank
Close-ratio 5 speed gearbox (as recommended by Chris Rees for K Series)
De-Dion Rear Axle
Polished/ Stainless 4 into 1 exhaust
Caterham Green/ Yellow Stripe/ Chrome Headlights/ Polished Stainless Sill & Mudguard Protectors
Full Weather Equipment including Rear Boot Cover
Heater
Leather Seats/ 4 Point Harnesses
Push Button Start/ Immobiliser
Temp Gauge switchable between Water/ Oil, Separate + Oil Pressure + Digital Speedo (under dash) with Memory/ Acceleration Timer etc.
Since being completed the car has only been used in dry weather and covered just 14, 000 miles. The history file contains all build paper work/ invoices, handbooks, MOTs and even the factory visitor’s pass. The Caterham is a stunning driver’s car and looks every bit as good as it performs…. she is utterly breath taking
Nearly all Caterham’s have been used/ abused for years as track day cars with little history and many none standard upgrades – this high specification example is as it was built/ approved by the factory. We recommend a personal viewing in order to fully appreciate (and hear first-hand!) this remarkable car.
