This superb value, very smartly presented MGB Roadster was first registered on the 1st February 1971. The car has been with its most recent owner since late 2016, a regular customer based in Pickering. Prior to recent ownership, the MG spent seven years with a classic car collector with a wide selection of cars from various era's. The MGB has been driven over to us, it is excellent on the road and presents very well with clean upholstery, a very good hood and an immaculate, detailed engine bay. The MG also boasts overdrive, a wood dash cover and desirable wire wheels.
YGB 875J was subject of serious restoration work back in 1996 and from the file of MOT certificates we can see the MG has covered in the region of 15000 miles since then. The MG was sold by a Yorkshire based classic car garage in 1996 who carried out a body restoration to include new rear wings and new floor pans. Mechanical work included new rear springs and trim was improved with a new carpet set, hood and frame. Shortly after the same garage re-trimmed the seats and also removed the engine, stripped the engine bay and detailed and painted the whole area. On re-fitting the engine and ancillaries, the car was treated to new gearbox mountings, new brake and clutch pipe, gearbox bell housing oil seal and gasket, new crank seal, new manifold gasket and rocker cover gasket. Invoices for more recent work are with the MG to include replacement shock absorbers, stainless steel exhaust, replacement prop shaft, bottom and top hoses, and various servicing and ignition items and correspondence in the file confirms an engine rebuild in the late 1980's.
On the road YGB 875J is really impressive with a smooth, strong engine unit holding excellent oil pressure. The gearbox has excellent syncro's, the overdrive works correctly and the steering feels tight and direct. The servo assisted brakes are keen and the MG offers a lovely exhaust note. This feels like and is a car that can really be used and driven with confidence and is not in need of any major work. It has proven reliable and can easily be used all year round and on a regular basis. The is an MGB not needing work, it isn't show standard but is ideal for local shows, rallies and regular use. This MG offers excellent value and is ready to go.
