MG Midget – Tifosi Rana Frogeye Evocation
The Tifosi Rana, Frogeye inspired, recreation is a kit based on an MG Midget/ Sprite chassis that provides a sports car with the looks/ character of an original Frogeye Sprite but with improved performance and parts availability.
Our example was built as a labour of love by a qualified engineer. A restored 1980 Midget was purchase in 2008 along with a Tifosi Rana Kit and the project commenced with the objective of a final car as cute as a Frogeye Sprite with performance and braking to match 21st century road conditions capable of continental touring.
The Triumph 1500 engine had been rebuilt by the previous owner, a Type 9 five speed gearbox/ conversion kit purchased from Frontline, 4 pot calliper front brakes (Frontline), revised suspension geometry (Frontline) to improve steering/ handling and every mechanical component inspected and replaced as necessary.
The body/ chassis required minimal work. The Tifosi kit was fitted and the car finished in stunning BMW Montreal Blue with replica Minilite wheels. The interior seats, door cards were retained, new seat covers/ mats fitted and although not on the car the original hood frame/ hood is supplied. There is a huge history file with MOT’s and invoices back to 1985 and pictures of the conversion from Midget to Frogeye in 2008.
The finished car is a testament to the skills and vision of the builder who wanted to create a car better than the original. The ‘Frogeye’ drives as tight as a drum with excellent performance and pinpoint handling – it really is an utter delight.
